2015 Biennial of the Americas Marcela Almas’ Implant Core Reading at Commons Park
 
WHAT:             The Biennial of the Americas, which officially kicked off on Tuesday, July 14 and continues through August 30, welcomes media to a special event featuring Marcela Armas’ Implant installation at Commons Park. On Wednesday, July 15th at 1:00 p.m., a geologist will read the rock samples that were extracted from the earth on the site for clues to the history of Denver, both recent and prehistoric.Implant is a public installation in downtown Denver and Mexico City by Armas. The artist is creating a live visual, historical and material dialogue between the two cities that will unfold over the course of the 2015 Biennial of the Americas. The project will make visible and tangible the complex and fascinating relationships between both cities’ geologies and their histories.
 
·       Additional events on Wednesday, July 15include:
o   STEAM (STEM + Art) Day at the Biennial Pavilion: The Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (BMOCA) will open its Biennial Poetry and Performance Café, Televisa Foundation Presents Great Minds in STEM, The Orange Economy presented by author Felipe Buitrago and Denver Museum of Nature and Science Presents Virtual Art Station Titan. Happy hour programming by Astronomy on Tap.
o   Women’s Leadership Luncheon at Seawell Grand Ballroom, Denver Performing Arts Complex: Meet women who are ascending to the top ranks of leadership in business, government and NGOs and are transforming the lives of countless women and children around the world.
o   Business NOW!: The Case for a New North-South Market Vision at Ellie Caulkins Opera House, Denver Performing Arts Complex: Join top business leaders as they seek the next big idea for trade in the Americas, exploring the strategies, tools and policies that can jumpstart business growth in the hemisphere. Opening remarks by Dr. Sergio Alcocer, Undersecretary of North American Affairs, Mexican Secretariat of Foreign Relations.
