Constantly, We Respond Without Provocation From a Place of Revenge

September 11, 2015

“We read enough of the news to sense that our government is heading in the direction of violent revenge, with the prospect of sons, daughters, parents, friends in distant lands, dying, suffering, and nursing further grievances against us. It is not the way to go. It will not avenge our son’s death. Not in our son’s name.”
#9/11 Anniversary: Orlando and Phyllis Rodriguez spoke out against using September 11, 2001 as a pretext for war. Their son, Gregory (pictured here), was thirty-one years old and working on the 103rd floor of the World Trade Center, where he died during the attack on 9/11/2001. The Rodriguez family sent an open letter titled “Not in Our Son’s Name” to the New York Times and other papers after the attack. Read the letter here ( and watch Benjamin Bratt read the letter, from Voices of a People’s History of the United States, here: Photo courtesy of Orlando and Phyllis Rodriguez.
We’re the most violent nation that has ever existed.
